Israel Signals Forceful Response, Calls Mount for Action Against Iran After Airport Strike

Following a direct Houthi missile strike on Ben Gurion Airport, Israeli leaders are vowing a significant military response, with increasing calls to target Iran directly for orchestrating the attack, according to reports in The Jerusalem Post. Citing an Israeli official, the Post revealed that the United States now understands Israel cannot remain passive in the face of attacks from Yemen, marking a notable shift in Washington's stance, which previously expressed reluctance towards Israeli strikes on the Houthis. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu explicitly blamed Tehran, stating the airport attack "originated from Iran."

The decision to retaliate was confirmed following a Sunday security meeting. "We will respond at a time and place of our choosing," Netanyahu declared, emphasizing Iran's role as the Houthi's "patron" and promising to send Tehran a "clear warning." Defense Minister Katz reinforced this, warning, "Those who harm us will be struck sevenfold." Calls for confrontation with Iran intensified, with National Unity party leader Benny Gantz stating, "This is not Yemen—it is Iran... The attacks on the State of Israel must lead to a severe response in Tehran."

While accepting the inevitability of an Israeli response, the US maintains its ongoing operations against the Houthis. An NSC Spokesman told The Jerusalem Post the US military has conducted over 1,000 strikes and will continue coordinating with Israel, affirming the Trump Administration's commitment to "ending the Houthis' capabilities." However, the Israeli official noted the change: "Washington now realizes that Israel can no longer remain passive." This development occurred after Israel had refrained from striking Yemen since the Trump administration took office, despite previous interventions. The attack on Israel's main airport appears to have been a catalyst for renewed determination and a sharpened focus on Iranian accountability.

Sovereignty as Spectacle: Turkish Cypriot Researcher Critiques Grand Opening of the Northern Cyprus New "Republican Campus"

On Saturday, the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC), which is not recognized internationally, officially launched its new "Republican Campus." The first construction phase features the new Presidential Building and Parliament Building, inaugurated during a grand ceremony attended by Turkey's President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. Dubbed by critics as a "show of sovereignty," the event, alongside the concurrent Teknofest technology festival, has drawn criticism from Turkish Cypriot researcher-writer Mete Hatay for its political undertones and symbolic messaging. Hatay, a noted peace researcher affiliated with the Peace Research Institute Oslo (PRIO), argues that the openings were not merely about inaugurating buildings but about constructing symbols of dominance under the guise of sovereignty. Hatay describes the events as meticulously staged platforms for political agendas. "Today in Northern Cyprus, it wasn't just buildings that were opened; symbols w...
