Turkey Jammed Israeli Jet Electronics Amid Deadly Syrian Airstrikes

Tensions in the complex Syrian theatre appear to have reached a new level, with reports emerging that Turkey actively interfered with an Israeli air operation. According to a report by The New Arab, citing Turkish pro-government media outlet Turkiye Gazetesi, Turkey utilized its sophisticated KORAL electronic warfare (EW) system to jam the electronics of Israeli fighter jets during recent deadly airstrikes over Syria. The Israeli Defence Forces (IDF) have not commented on the allegations, and official confirmation from Ankara is also pending.

The alleged incident occurred as Israeli aircraft conducted strikes near the Syrian cities of Homs and Hama. Syrian state media reported that the attacks resulted in the deaths of several Syrian soldiers and caused material damage.

The Turkish KORAL system, reportedly deployed near the Turkish-Syrian border, is a land-based transportable EW suite designed to jam, deceive, and paralyze hostile radar and electronic systems. If the reports are accurate, its use against Israeli jets would mark a significant and potentially escalatory move by Turkey. It suggests a willingness by Ankara to impede Israeli military actions in Syria directly, adding another dangerous layer to the multi-faceted conflict.

Sources cited in the Turkish media claimed the KORAL system effectively "blinded" the Israeli jets, interfering with their radar and communication systems during the critical phase of their mission. While the full impact of the alleged jamming on the Israeli operation remains unclear, the claim itself highlights Turkey's growing EW capabilities and its assertive posture in the region.

Sovereignty as Spectacle: Turkish Cypriot Researcher Critiques Grand Opening of the Northern Cyprus New "Republican Campus"

On Saturday, the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC), which is not recognized internationally, officially launched its new "Republican Campus." The first construction phase features the new Presidential Building and Parliament Building, inaugurated during a grand ceremony attended by Turkey's President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. Dubbed by critics as a "show of sovereignty," the event, alongside the concurrent Teknofest technology festival, has drawn criticism from Turkish Cypriot researcher-writer Mete Hatay for its political undertones and symbolic messaging. Hatay, a noted peace researcher affiliated with the Peace Research Institute Oslo (PRIO), argues that the openings were not merely about inaugurating buildings but about constructing symbols of dominance under the guise of sovereignty. Hatay describes the events as meticulously staged platforms for political agendas. "Today in Northern Cyprus, it wasn't just buildings that were opened; symbols w...
