Azerbaijan and China Elevate Ties to Comprehensive Strategic Partnership

China and Azerbaijan have formally established a comprehensive strategic partnership, enhancing their bilateral relationship significantly, according to a report by the China Daily. The declaration followed talks held in Beijing on Wednesday between Chinese President Xi Jinping and visiting Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, who is currently on a state visit to China.

During their meeting at the Great Hall of the People, President Xi emphasized the need for continuous enhancement of political mutual trust, deeper practical cooperation, and stronger international collaboration between the two nations. He reaffirmed China's support for Azerbaijan's national sovereignty, independence, territorial integrity, and its chosen development path. Xi also called for strengthened alignment of development strategies, promoting high-quality Belt and Road cooperation, and deepening law enforcement cooperation to combat terrorism, extremism, and separatism. Furthermore, Xi opposed tariff and trade wars, advocating for safeguarding the UN-centered international system, a commitment that reassures the audience about global stability.

President Aliyev, in his remarks, underscored the mutual respect and trust that underpin the relationship between the two nations. He noted the rapid development of economic and trade relations and reiterated Azerbaijan's commitment to the one-China principle. Aliyev also expressed strong support for President Xi's global initiatives, viewing them as conducive to world peace and stability. He stated Azerbaijan's readiness to expand cooperation in the digital economy, green energy, and technology under the new strategic framework.

The leaders signed a joint statement formalizing the upgraded partnership, demonstrating their strong commitment to the relationship. They witnessed the signing of 20 cooperation documents, signaling a new chapter of comprehensive cooperation.
