According to Syria TV, a delegation from the Autonomous Administration of Northeastern Syria, comprised mainly of Kurds and their allies, tasked with negotiating with the Syrian government, has departed for Damascus to begin discussions on what sources describe as "complex files" between the two parties. The delegation will examine the terms of the agreement signed between Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa and the Commander-in-Chief of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), Mazloum Abdi, on March 10.
The delegation includes Fawza Youssef from the Democratic Union Party (PYD), Abdul Hamid al-Mahbash of the Future Syria Party, and Ahmed Youssef from the Finance Authority. Syriac Union Party leader Sanharib Barsoum, Women's Protection Units member Sozdar Haji, and spokespersons Maryam Ibrahim and Yasser Suleiman complete the team.
Discussions will focus on integrating the Administration's civil and security institutions into Syrian state structures, alongside education policy and resource management in northeastern Syria. According to logistical arrangements coordinated with the international coalition, the delegation is scheduled to arrive in Damascus today, barring any technical delays.
A separate Kurdish delegation will be formed in the coming days to address Kurdish national and political rights based on the "Joint Political Vision Document" adopted at a conference in Qamishli in April 2025. This document advocates for the establishment of a "democratic, decentralized state" that ensures Kurdish rights and promotes women's participation in political and military affairs.
Kurdish leader Badran Jia Kurd emphasized to AFP that "decentralized, pluralistic governance is a non-negotiable demand," adding that "a decentralized, democratic Syria is the optimal solution for all pending issues." He stressed that centralized governance "ignores regional specificities" and that dialogue with the Syrian government includes "difficult and complex files," requiring "building more bridges of trust between the parties."
The agreement between President al-Sharaa and Commander Abdi includes provisions for integrating northeastern institutions into the Syrian state while recognizing the Kurdish component as "an authentic part of the Syrian state" with "full constitutional rights."
