US Secretary of State Slams Turkish Erdoğan Over UN Remarks

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio sharply rebuked Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, publicly countering Erdoğan's jab at Donald Trump over unresolved wars in Gaza and Ukraine. Responding to Erdoğan's remarks on Fox News, made in New York during the UN General Assembly, Rubio argued that the Turkish leader misread current diplomacy and insisted that global problem-solving still runs through Washington.

According to Turkish outlet T24, Rubio responded in a separate Fox News segment when asked about Erdoğan's claims. "Leaders can say what they want, but at the end of the day, when a solution is needed, they want to come to the White House," Rubio said. "President Erdoğan is coming to meet the President this week. They all want to talk to Trump and have him solve the problem." He said talks were ongoing "even today," claiming leaders were "practically begging—'include us, give us five minutes to shake hands.'" He called Trump "indispensable."

Erdoğan had earlier revisited Trump's campaign promises in his own Fox News interview, saying, "Trump said, 'I'll end the Russia–Ukraine war.' Did it end? No. He said, 'I'll end the Gaza war.' Did it end? No." He also said Ankara views Hamas as a "resistance movement," not a terrorist group—comments likely to prompt criticism in Washington.

Rubio's broadside came during the UN gathering amid slow diplomacy over Gaza hostages and a potential cease-fire, while the grinding war in Ukraine persists.
