Aleppo Under Fire: Child Among 4 Dead as "Interim Govt." Forces Renew Deadly Shelling on Sheikh Maqsoud

The fragile security situation in northern Syria has deteriorated significantly following a renewed wave of heavy artillery bombardment targeting the northern Aleppo neighborhoods of Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafieh. The strikes, which targeted densely populated residential zones, have resulted in multiple civilian casualties and caused widespread panic among residents who have long endured the hardships of a prolonged conflict.

According to reports released by the pro-Kurdish ANF and Hawar News Agency (ANHA), the attacks were launched by armed groups affiliated with the Syrian Interim Government. These outlets identified the perpetrators as "mercenaries" aligned with the Transitional Government, stating that these factions renewed their shelling campaigns against the two neighborhoods. The sources indicated that the bombardment was not merely sporadic fire but a coordinated offensive intended to destabilize the security of the region.

The humanitarian toll of the assault has become increasingly severe as rescue teams work to clear rubble and assist the wounded. Initial reports indicated a single civilian fatality; however, the casualty count rose sharply as the shelling intensified. Updated figures provided by local monitors indicate that the death toll has climbed to four civilians, a figure that tragically includes at least one child. Furthermore, medical facilities in the besieged neighborhoods are struggling to cope with the influx of victims, with reports confirming that at least 26 individuals have sustained injuries ranging from shrapnel wounds to critical trauma.

Beyond the artillery strikes, the violence included attempted ground incursions. Sources close to the defense forces in the region reported that the armed factions attempted to breach the perimeter of Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafieh. However, these attempts were met with stiff resistance. Reports suggest that the attacking groups faced a robust response from local defense units, eventually forcing them to withdraw. ANF reported that the "attack groups suffered heavy blows" during the confrontation and retreated after failing to secure any ground, leaving behind a trail of destruction in civilian areas.

The bombardment has exacerbated an already dire humanitarian crisis in Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafieh. These neighborhoods, predominantly inhabited by Kurds, have frequently faced sieges and economic embargoes, limiting the flow of food, fuel, and medicine. The renewed violence has forced families to seek shelter in basements and interior rooms, fearing that further escalations could lead to a total collapse of the local infrastructure.

Observers in the region warn that the resumption of hostilities by groups affiliated with the Interim Government threatens to unravel the tenuous stability in Aleppo. As the smoke clears over the damaged residential blocks, the local population remains on high alert, mourning the four lives lost and fearing that the retreat of the attacking forces may only be temporary. The international community has yet to issue a formal response to this specific flare-up, leaving the residents of Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafieh to brace for the potential of continued violence.
