TLF SPECIAL: Ankara's Warning. U.S. Strike on Iran Could Ignite a Regional War, Sources Say

Turkey has warned the United States that any potential military strike on Iran could trigger a chain reaction across the Middle East, raising the risk of a wider regional conflict, according to information shared with The Levant Files (TLF).

Well‑placed sources cited by TLF said the message was delivered through both formal diplomatic channels and informal back‑channel contacts. The warning, they said, was framed around the assessment that Iran currently views itself as operating in “survival mode,” increasing the likelihood of a forceful response to any attack.

According to the same sources, an Iranian counter‑strike scenario would not be limited to a single target. They said retaliation could extend to U.S. facilities in neighboring countries and could also heighten risks for Israel—while generating broader instability across the region. In their assessment, the worst‑case outcome would be a rapid escalation into a regional war.

TLF’s sources said Washington appeared to have recognized the seriousness of the warning, pointing to recent public and private messaging as signs that U.S. officials understand the potential consequences of escalation. For the Turkish side, the sources added, these signals suggest an increased willingness to keep diplomatic channels open.

Asked whether Turkey could facilitate communication between Tehran and Washington, TLF’s sources responded positively. They said Ankara is prepared to play a constructive role in supporting dialogue if it can lead to a diplomatic off‑ramp in the crisis.

At the same time, the sources reiterated a longstanding Turkish position: opposition to foreign intervention and to any attempt at regime change in Iran.
