US–Iran War Live Blog Closed: Iran Warns Ships of ‘Serious Damage’ as Hormuz Tensions Rise — Israel Votes Tomorrow

Saudi Arabia, Pakistan and Turkey are taking their diplomatic push to Tehran as the threat of renewed American strikes hangs over the region. In Yemen, the fighting is already intensifying: the Houthis claim fresh attacks on Saudi oil infrastructure and Riyadh airport, while the Saudi-led coalition reports strikes against missile facilities. Washington has military options ready, according to new reporting. No new US attack order has been confirmed in the sources reviewed for this opening briefing.

FINAL UPDATE — TODAY’S LIVE COVERAGE CLOSES

We are concluding today’s live coverage as Iran issues another warning to shipping through the Strait of Hormuz and British maritime authorities investigate reports of a vessel fire near Iraq. Separately, Oman has called for a regional non-aggression pact encompassing Iran, Iraq and the six Gulf Cooperation Council states.

Iran’s Military Chief Warns Ships Over Hormuz Restrictions

Iran’s armed forces chief of general staff, Major General Ali Abdollahi, has warned that vessels disregarding Iranian navigation procedures or departing from designated routes risk serious damage.

According to Press TV’s account of his remarks, Abdollahi said the Strait of Hormuz remained completely closed and under Iranian military management. He also asserted that Iranian forces had strengthened their equipment and readiness to respond to renewed attacks.

The declaration establishes Iran’s stated position and warning to shipping. It does not independently establish complete Iranian control of the waterway or the extent of any physical closure.

Separate Vessel-Fire Alert Near Iraq

The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations has circulated Warning 183-26 after receiving multiple third-party reports of a vessel on fire approximately 63 nautical miles southeast of Al-Faw, Iraq.

The notice, dated 26 October and classified as suspicious activity, leaves the incident time unconfirmed. The vessel’s identity, crew condition, damage and environmental impact have not been established. Ships nearby were advised to exercise caution while authorities investigate.

The alert confirms that reports were received; it does not establish an attack, identify a perpetrator or demonstrate any connection with Abdollahi’s warning.

Oman Calls For An Inclusive Gulf Security Pact

In a speech at Cambridge published by Oman’s Foreign Ministry, Foreign Minister Badr Albusaidi called for a non-aggression pact bringing together Bahrain, Iran, Iraq, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates.

Albusaidi also disclosed that Omani–Iranian discussions had produced the outline of a temporary arrangement concerning navigation through Hormuz. However, he said political obstacles remained and implementation required compromise between Iran and the United States.

This is a diplomatic proposal and an account of unfinished negotiations. It is not an announcement that navigation has resumed or that a regional pact has been agreed.

Verification at close: The Iranian military warning and the UKMTO notice are documented. The reported fire’s cause and any connection to Iranian forces remain unverified. The reporting reviewed for this closing update does not independently confirm renewed US airstrikes inside Iran.

Iran's Security Chief Sets Out Tehran's Position After Talks

Mehr publication: 19:47 Cyprus / 21:17 Iran

Iran's security chief says the Tehran consultations pointed towards security arrangements led by regional countries. His account provides more detail on Iran's position, while leaving the reported Pakistani settlement proposal unanswered publicly.

Supreme National Security Council Secretary Mohsen Rezaei told reporters that cooperation among Iran, Saudi Arabia, Turkey and Pakistan could address regional problems, Mehr reported. He argued that West Asian security should be shaped within the region and protected from outside interference.

Rezaei also portrayed the visiting delegations' presence as evidence that American threats had failed to deter regional engagement. That is Tehran's interpretation of the talks. It does not establish that the other participants accepted Iran's position on foreign military forces.

A fresh Mehr publication of the joint statement confirms the limited public commitment already reported: continued dialogue on cooperation, peace and security. The statement contains no ceasefire terms, implementation schedule or agreed regional guarantee mechanism.

Pezeshkian Takes Energy-Security Agenda To Moscow

Press TV publication: 19:36 Cyprus / 21:06 Iran

President Masoud Pezeshkian said energy transit security, freedom of trade and regional order would feature in his Moscow visit, Iran's state-funded Press TV reported. The report describes his departure for the Gas Exporting Countries Forum summit and talks with Russian officials.

Speaking before leaving Tehran, Pezeshkian blamed American and Israeli actions for insecurity along regional energy routes. He also called for closer cooperation with Russia and challenged the use of dollar dominance to impose sanctions.

These are newly published details of his agenda. They establish neither Russian participation in the proposed settlement guarantees nor a new agreement over the Strait of Hormuz.

Yemen: Fresh Publication Carries An Earlier Houthi Warning

In a report published at 18:56 Cyprus time, Press TV quoted Ansarullah official Mohammed al-Farah warning opponents against underestimating the movement's military and intelligence capabilities.

The remarks were made on Sunday. They are an earlier political warning carried in a new publication, rather than confirmation of a fresh attack, weapons deployment or territorial advance since our previous update.

Where The Diplomatic Track Stands

The new material clarifies Tehran's preferred regional framework and Moscow agenda. We have not verified Iranian acceptance of the reported Pakistani proposal, formal American endorsement of its undisclosed terms or a ceasefire agreement. No renewed US strike inside Iran or independently verified territorial change was established during this check.

IRAN STRIKE WATCH | SIGNIFICANT DIPLOMATIC DEVELOPMENT

Pakistan Reportedly Presents Iran Proposal With Trump's Go-Ahead

Pakistani army chief Asim Munir presented Iran with a conflict-resolution proposal after receiving Trump's go-ahead to pursue diplomacy, a Pakistani official told Reuters. Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Pakistan and Qatar could act as guarantors if it were accepted, the official said.

The terms were undisclosed. Trump's reported approval to explore diplomacy does not establish formal US endorsement of specific terms, Iranian acceptance or an agreed guarantee mechanism.

Tehran Talks End With A Commitment To Continue

The four countries agreed to continue discussions aimed at strengthening cooperation, particularly on regional peace and security, according to the closing statement reproduced by Nour News.

Iran's Supreme National Security Council Secretary Mohsen Rezaei hosted the security meeting with Saudi Defence Minister Prince Khalid bin Salman, Munir and Turkish intelligence chief İbrahim Kalın. The visiting officials also met President Masoud Pezeshkian.

Iran International's updated Persian-language report likewise records the commitment to further dialogue. It notes that the closing statement supplied no timetable, future agenda or details of practical agreements.

Blockade And Nuclear Sequencing Remain Unresolved

Earlier reporting carried by The Times of Israel quoted an Iranian official saying nuclear discussions would wait until Tehran's demands for ending the war were addressed, including lifting the port blockade and oil-export sanctions. The broader agenda included Houthi attacks on Saudi Arabia and maritime security.

TLF Assessment

A proposed regional guarantee could give neighbouring states a role in sustaining a future settlement. Its value would depend on the obligations they accept and how those obligations are enforced. Neither has been disclosed. The public outcome remains a commitment to continue talks.

No ceasefire agreement, renewed American strike inside Iran or independently verified territorial change was established during this check.

26 OCTOBER 2026 | AFTERNOON UPDATE

Reporting window: 15:46–17:46 Cyprus time. Publication times below refer to reports, not necessarily to the events described.

Yemen's Hospitals Near Breaking Point

New reporting | 16:55 Cyprus time

Fuel shortages have forced the Yemeni-Swedish maternity hospital in Taiz to reduce its operating incubators from 40 to 10, Reuters reports. Staff warn that neonatal services could stop without fresh supplies.

The World Health Organization says 42 health facilities in the city face acute shortages. The World Food Programme reports that more than 800,000 people in Taiz and surrounding areas have lost access to food assistance. These are newly published findings about an unfolding crisis, rather than confirmation of a new attack.

Reuters: Iranian Funds Help Hezbollah Prepare For Renewed War

Significant new security reporting | 16:46 Cyprus time

Hezbollah has spent three months preparing for renewed hostilities, receiving tens of millions of dollars from Iran, sources told Reuters. Reported priorities include explosives, attack drones and command structures. Sources say preparations remain incomplete.

Hezbollah denied that its command systems had broken down and cited resistance to Israeli occupation as legitimate. Iran's UN mission in Geneva did not immediately respond. The funding and readiness assessments remain attributed source claims. The report establishes neither a decision to enter a new war nor a newly launched operation.

Egypt's Proposed Saudi Support Takes Clearer Shape

New detail following parliamentary authorisation | AP dispatch, 16:46 Cyprus time

A regional official briefed on the plans told The Associated Press that Egypt would provide air-defence systems and aircraft to help Saudi Arabia intercept Houthi missiles and drones, without sending ground troops into Yemen.

The account adds detail to the parliamentary mandate reported earlier. It comes from an anonymous official, rather than a published Egyptian deployment order. The government has not publicly specified the package, and the report does not establish that the equipment or aircraft have arrived.

Israel: Likud Seeks Investigation Over Polymarket Repost

Election development | Maariv report supplied, 16:23 local time

Likud has filed a police complaint against Ronen Manelis, campaign manager for Gadi Eisenkot, over his reposting of Polymarket figures on X. The complaint, described in Maariv's report and separately covered by Zman Israel, alleges a breach of election-publication rules.

The repost showed Eisenkot with a 52% probability of becoming prime minister, against 28% for Benjamin Netanyahu. These figures describe prediction-market probabilities, not voting intentions, vote shares or projected parliamentary seats.

Likud argues that the post lacked adequate clarification and wants a criminal investigation. That is the party's allegation. The material reviewed establishes no police finding or court ruling that Manelis broke the law.

Horn Of Africa Watch: Nile Warning Is Earlier Context

Background supplied by the reader | Published 25 October

The Daily News Egypt article records Sisi's Sunday warning that Egypt would reject unilateral arrangements compromising its water security. He said other Nile Basin countries' development should not harm their neighbours.

This is an earlier statement about the Nile dispute. It announces no Egyptian military action against Ethiopia and establishes no operational connection to the Saudi defence mandate. During this check, we could not verify a new Ethiopia–Eritrea battlefield development published within the two-hour window.

Verification Note

Preparations, proposed deployments and political complaints are reported with attribution. No renewed American strike inside Iran was independently established during this check.

26 OCTOBER 2026 | 16:34 CYPRUS TIME

Latest reporting reviewed: 14:34–16:34 Cyprus time. Earlier developments are identified as context.

Egypt Approves Saudi Defence Support As Tehran Talks Reach Presidential Level

Egypt's parliament has authorised President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi to take measures in support of Saudi Arabia's defence. Meanwhile, regional delegations have met Iran's president, and the White House says the United States will not attack Iran before the American midterm elections on 3 November.

Cairo Grants The Authorisation

Egypt's House of Representatives approved the Saudi support mandate by a two-thirds majority, according to a parliamentary statement carried by Al-Watan. The decision authorises measures coordinated with Riyadh to defend Saudi territory, sovereignty and holy sites against external attacks.

Al-Ahram independently reported the approval. The parliamentary statement follows closed sessions held on 18, 19 and 26 October and refers to the National Defence Council's deliberations on 18 October.

This establishes parliamentary authorisation. The reports reviewed do not establish that Egyptian troops have deployed, identify a force package or provide a deployment date.

In remarks reported earlier Monday by Youm7, Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty described any potential participation as defensive. Speaking alongside UN Secretary-General António Guterres, he said Cairo was coordinating with Turkey, Pakistan and Qatar to contain the US–Iran confrontation.

Those earlier remarks provide the diplomatic context for the vote. Egypt is preparing to support Saudi defence while continuing to press for a negotiated reduction in tensions.

White House Rules Out US Attacks Before The Midterms

White House Deputy Press Secretary Anna Kelly told Reuters in a report published at 15:06 Cyprus time: “The United States will not be attacking Iran at any time prior to the midterm elections.”

The statement extends Washington's declared restraint beyond Trump's Sunday remarks. Kelly also said the blockade would remain in force. The assurance concerns US action before the 3 November vote; it does not announce a peace agreement or settle Israel's intentions.

Regional Delegations Meet Pezeshkian

IRNA reported at 15:54 Cyprus time that President Masoud Pezeshkian met senior Saudi, Pakistani and Turkish officials.

Reuters also reports that the talks took place. Saudi Defence Minister Prince Khalid bin Salman, Pakistani army chief Field Marshal Asim Munir and Turkish intelligence chief İbrahim Kalın participated. Iranian state media published pictures showing Pezeshkian, Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and Supreme National Security Council Secretary Mohsen Rezaei attending.

The consultations have advanced beyond the morning's announced itinerary. No final agreement, implementation timetable or US acceptance of a settlement has been established in the reporting reviewed.

Hormuz: Delayed Report Describes A Disabled Tanker

Earlier reporting supplied for this update; the incident occurred on 23 October.

Maritime-security company Clearwater Dynamics, citing UKMTO, records a delayed report of a tanker struck by an unidentified projectile while travelling outbound through the Strait of Hormuz. Its alert lists the incident at 08:39 UTC on Friday, 23 October.

The tanker was reportedly disabled and its crew safe. The exact location, responsibility and environmental consequences remain undetermined. This is an earlier incident reported belatedly, rather than evidence of a fresh strike this afternoon.

What Has Changed

Egypt has granted a defence mandate, the Tehran consultations have reached presidential level, and Washington has publicly ruled out US attacks before the midterms. Earlier reporting about American military readiness remains conditional on a presidential order. No renewed US strike inside Iran was independently established during this check.

LIVE BLOG REOPENED | 12:50 CYPRUS TIME

Opening review: 00:50–12:50 Cyprus time, 26 October 2026. Earlier developments are identified as background. Times refer to Cyprus unless otherwise stated.

KEY DEVELOPMENTS

  • Senior regional officials pursue talks in Tehran as Qatar continues its mediation effort.
  • New reporting describes US readiness for a major operation if Trump orders it. A decision to launch has not been confirmed.
  • Iran says it remains prepared to defend itself and dismisses the importance of the Israeli election result.
  • Houthi claims against Saudi oil infrastructure and Riyadh airport accompany coalition reports of attacks on missile facilities in Yemen.

Tehran Becomes The Centre Of A Regional Diplomatic Push

Saudi Defence Minister Prince Khalid bin Salman, Pakistani army chief Field Marshal Asim Munir and Turkish intelligence chief İbrahim Kalın are the senior figures involved in Monday's Tehran initiative, according to Reuters. The contacts bring Iran together with representatives of the three Mecca Pact countries amid mounting regional tensions.

The Associated Press reported that the delegations were in Tehran for meetings intended to avert renewed fighting. Regional officials said Yemen and Houthi attacks on Saudi Arabia were also on the agenda. Qatar's mediators had travelled to Tehran on Sunday, providing the immediate background to Monday's effort.

Al Jazeera Arabic's live coverage likewise led with the regional meeting and continuing Qatari mediation. No agreement emerging from these contacts has been established in the reporting reviewed here.

US Strike Plans Raise The Pressure

American forces could begin a major operation against Iran within 96 hours of receiving a presidential order, according to two US officials cited by CNN in reporting carried Monday by The Jerusalem Post. The report describes preparations for a campaign larger than attacks confined to equipment Iran can readily replace.

It also says Washington urged Israel to hold off while possible joint action was considered. Trump had not made a final decision, according to the report. Military readiness does not establish that an operation has been authorised or that a countdown has begun.

Trump's Sunday remarks remain the immediate political background. A Bloomberg report published Monday by ThePrint described him weighing an agreement against renewed attacks. His later statement ruling out a strike that day referred to Sunday, 25 October. It should not be read as a guarantee covering Monday.

Iran Couples Regional Talks With A Defence Warning

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei said Monday that Iran remained in a state of war and would exercise its right to defend itself against renewed attacks, Mehr reported. He confirmed the Qatari delegation's visit and described it as part of both bilateral contacts and mediation.

In IRNA's account, Baghaei presented the Tehran meeting as a possible starting point for regional security arrangements rooted in the region itself.

Maritime pressure also featured in Tehran's messaging. In a separate Mehr report published Monday morning, Baghaei rejected US accusations of Iranian piracy by pointing to Trump's earlier language about American seizures of commercial ships and oil cargoes. The exchange illustrates the continuing dispute over responsibility for the shipping crisis.

Israeli Election Brings Fresh Warnings And Denials

Iran said the identity of the winner in Tuesday's Israeli election would make no difference to its position, Asharq Al-Awsat reported, citing AFP. Baghaei's remarks followed Netanyahu's warning on Sunday that Iran or its allies might seek to disrupt the vote.

Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz denied that Israel intended to initiate an attack before the election and rejected reports of a dispute between the political leadership and military, according to AP's Monday coverage. His denial accompanies continuing reports about possible military action.

Yemen–Saudi Front: Oil Infrastructure And Airport Under Threat

The Houthis said Monday they attacked Saudi East-West crude oil pumping stations and Riyadh's King Khalid International Airport. Reuters reported no immediate Saudi confirmation. The coalition separately said it intercepted a missile directed towards Riyadh.

In its 02:00 GMT bulletin, Iran's state-funded Press TV carried Houthi spokesman Yahya Saree's account of missile operations against Saudi targets and his renewed warning to airlines and passengers against using Riyadh airport. These are statements by a party to the fighting. They do not independently establish successful strikes or damage.

Press TV also reported Saree's assertion that operations would continue until attacks on Yemen stopped and restrictions on the country were lifted. His remarks keep civilian aviation and Saudi infrastructure under an explicit threat even as regional officials pursue talks.

Coalition Reports Strikes Inside Yemen

The Saudi-led coalition said it destroyed five missile-storage tunnels, four ballistic missile launchers and another storage facility. Reuters carried the coalition's account. The claimed destruction has not been independently verified here.

AP reported explosions in Sanaa and on Yemen's Red Sea coast. Residents in Mokha described damage to buildings, including a hospital. Accounts of the targets and responsibility remain incomplete.

Coverage Continues

We are following the outcome of the Tehran contacts, any new US decision, and independent confirmation of the reported Saudi and Yemeni strikes. New developments will appear above this opening briefing, with the newest update first.
